Five Weeks of Leeks: Week 2, Eat Leeks at Local Restaurants
For Leek Week 2, we went to talk to our local chefs in their restaurants to show you their leek food specials this season. It was a really great experience and we can tell you first-hand that you need to get out and try this food for yourself!
Read on (and watch the videos) to see what’s all being offered.
Restaurant 1 of 3: Logyard Brewing Taproom
Head of Logyard Brewery culinary Katie Johnson knocks it out of the park with these leek specials!
The Bacon Bundles and Bread are leek heaven!!! Roasted asparagus with a Kane, PA leek wrapped in crispy bacon alongside crisp, yet soft, bread with whipped feta and Maze’s honey infused with spicy peppers and leeks that POP! Be sure to share so you all have leek breath together- no one will regret it????
Digging up leeks has become a family tradition for the Johnsons, their 3 boys and Grandpa Barry Johnson. You’ll eat leeks picked with lots of love.
When asked for a recommendation on which beer pairs best with leeks, Logyard co-owner Royce Novosel-Johnson said, “A cold one.”
So, there you have it, leek specials and cold beer at Logyard’s taproom starting Thursday at 4 p.m.!
Leek Week 2, Restaurant 2 of 3: Pepe’s Pizzeria
See what Mary has been cooking up!
Leek and butter wings!
Ham, leek and potato soup! (Ask for a side of homemade bread)
Ham and leek wheeler on homemade bread with a generous handful of sautéed leeks and a side of leek tater tots!
Cheesy leek bread, also a good side with the soup!
The leeks are handpicked by Jo Jo Road native Mary and Westline native Rob (ok, mostly by Rob but Mary really holds the bag well!) and they sure know where to find them.
Come in for lunch or dinner with your buddies and have a cold drink with one of these specials. Or maybe come back a few times so you can try them all!
Leek Week 2, Restaurant 3 of 3: Table 105
Check out these leek specials from Chef Charlie! Smells soooooo good!
Ham and leek pizza with a garlic butter base on their delicious dough. Just enough leek bite to set it apart!
Ham, leek and bean soup that is perfect for a spring day!
Leek smash burger, which includes a generous portion of battered, fried leeks on top. It’s so big! You can get a double or single patty and it comes out quickly if you’re in a hurry. We want to see pics of you eating this!
Not pictured is their creamy leek dip in a bread bowl with toasted bread. You can have it hot or cold, but I highly recommend hot. Yummmmmm!
Get out this wild leek season and taste these dishes Chef Charlie Koester dreamed up!
After tasting these wild leek specials, we highly recommend doing a leek crawl! Go from place to place and try them all.
Tune in next week for Leek Week 3 when we have James Anderson of Montgomery’s Kitchen show us how to prepare one of the many leek recipes out there.
