Assistant Chief of Police – Kane Borough, McKean County, PA
Kane Borough, located in scenic McKean County, Pennsylvania, is seeking applications from qualified candidates for the position of Assistant Chief of Police.
Nestled on the Allegheny Plateau and surrounded by hundreds of thousands of forested acres, Kane Borough is a full-service community that offers residents and visitors endless year-round opportunities for outdoor recreation.
The Assistant Chief of Police will be responsible for:
- Evidence Management
- Childline Investigations
- Reviewing and approving complaint reports, incident reports, and criminal complaints through the INFORMANT RMS system
- Assisting with developing, implementing, and enforcing departmental policies, procedures, and internal regulations, in order to implement directives from the Council or Manager.
- Planning for and reviewing specifications for new or replaced equipment.
- Assisting with developing, implementing, and enforcing departmental policies, procedures, and internal regulations.
- Assisting with overseeing staff, managing training programs, and handling disciplinary matters or internal investigations.
- Ensuring that laws and ordinances are enforced and that the public peace and safety is maintained.
- Performing the duties of patrol officer as needed or directed.
- Representing the Borough in a positive and progressive manner.
- Assisting with BodyCam and MVR cloud service. Reviewing and logging pertinent footage.
- Attending meetings or community functions if the Chief is unavailable
- Performing other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Pennsylvania MPOETC Certification at time of appointment
- Minimum 5 years of progressive supervisory experience in law enforcement preferred
- Must meet such medical and physical standards as may be prescribed by the civil service board and successfully pass any qualifying examination, either oral or written, that the board may approve.
- Valid Pennsylvania motor vehicle operator’s license without record of suspension or revocation in any state.
- U.S. Citizenship
- No criminal record; must be willing to undergo an extensive background investigation
Required Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills
- Strong management and leadership ability with proven supervisory experience
- Familiarity with administrative practices and supervisory theory
- Ability to train and supervise other police personnel
- Considerable knowledge of traffic and criminal law, municipal ordinances and applicable
- Federal laws
- Ability to make sound operational and emergency decisions
- Strong oral and written communication skills, including report writing
- Knowledge of municipal labor and pension laws as well as contemporary personnel regulations
- Proficiency in computer systems and familiarity with records management systems
- Skillful operation of required tools and equipment
- Ability to meet all physical standards of the department

The Borough of Kane, PA is currently looking for qualified candidates to be accepted into a Police Officer Cadet Sponsorship program.
This program is designed to assist accepted candidates financially while being trained at a Police Academy.

We are looking for a dedicated Police Officer to join our team to serve and protect members of the public and their properties, prevent crime and improve citizens’ quality of life.

Minimum Experience, Knowledge, and Skills:
- United States Citizen
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Possess a High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- Possess a valid Pennsylvania driver’s license
- Possess current Act 120 certification
- Successfully pass a background check
- Pass a basic knowledge test
- Pass a basic physical & fitness test
