Family bonds are strong here in Kane. Today we talk with Tom and Levi Haberberger, who work together in the family business. They share a story about how they got through a tough time together and how the community in Kane gives people second chances.
It’s Wednesday! The Kane Historic Preservation Society shares stories of Kane’s past each week and tonight we are in for a great one!
Wendy Oakes tells the story of Scipio Young, a runaway slave who helped build Kane with General Thomas L. Kane.❤️
Dr. Bruno Sicher and his wife Rosemary moved to Kane in 1960, just 3 years after he finished medical school. During a 28 year period, Dr. Sicher delivered more than 2,400 babies in Kane and over the course of his 44 year practice he made house calls, assisted with surgeries and worked in the ER to help keep those babies and families healthy.
You may also know that Dr. Sicher was called to go to the scene of a plane crash on Christmas Eve of 1968. He shares that story, in addition to stories about coming to Kane and his time working. Watch him tell these stories for himself!
Mick Petruney was named Kane Citizen of the Year in 2019 for his contribution to helping rebuild the skate/bike park by Glenwood. He tells the story of how he got involved, ways the community rallied to raise money and volunteer, and how special the kids at the skate/bike park are to him.
Thanks to Mick’s leadership, today the Eli McCloskey Skate/Bike Park is up and gives people a safe place to hang out and test their athletic abilities.
Summer in Kane, PA is incredible. And campfires under the big, starry sky are part of that. So tonight we have a “fireside chat” with Ken Wilson about his dog, Jeff.
Watch their story for yourself.
The Kane Family Drive-In is such a gem. We love that there are movies shown during the summer weekends and one of the coolest things they do is Squatchfest, an annual music festival. Kristin and Boyd Lewis share a story about the significance of Squatchfest the last 3 years.
It takes a village to raise a child and that’s why Michelle Palmer decided to move back home to Kane in 1998.
Today she shared stories about her wedding day, raising her son Tanner and her love of the Kane Area Community Center.
