This retreat will give pastors the space to explore what a contemplative life in ministry could look like\, valuable time for rest and reflection\, and tools that to help put this kind of life into practice. Rev. Dr. L. Roger Owens L. Roger Owens is professor of Christian spirituality and ministry at Pittsburgh Theological Seminary. An ordained minister\, he has served rural and urban United Methodist Congregations in North Carolina and is currently Co-Senior Pastor\, with his wife\, Rev. Ginger Thomas\, of Fox Chapel Presbyterian Church in Fox Chapel\, PA. An active speaker and retreat leader\, Roger is the author of several books\, including Abba\, Give Me a Word: The Path of Spiritual Direction and\, most recently\, Everyday Contemplative: The Way of Prayerful Living. This retreat begins with a brief time of community building and getting to know one another\, before entering into silence. Throughout the retreat\, we gather for morning and evening prayer daily\, including holy communion\, and to share meals. Each retreat participant will also meet daily one-on-one with a trained Spiritual Director\, who provides a listening ear and gentle guidance for the retreat time. Retreat Leaders Companions on the Road\, a group of contemplative friends\, gathers to share silence in community three times each year: a two-night introduction to silence (this retreat!); a four-night “growing deeper” experience; and a seven-night experience of extended silence.  Lay persons and clergy from all traditions are welcome to participate.
