Olmsted is partnering with the WPAUMC Conference Staff to offer this training and planning retreat for local youth leaders. Networking is essential to offering the best possible program while also guarding against burnout\, so come to build relationships and take-home new ideas to serve your youth better. WPAUMC Staff Leadership Amanda Mitchell has served on WPAUMC conference staff as the Coordinator of Young People’s Ministry since 2016. Through her Conference position\, Amanda provides resources\, connection\, and leadership to local churches and their young people. Amanda has a degree in Elementary Education from IUP and has volunteered in all types of ministry within the local church. Heather Shoffstall is the Youth Ministry Director for Christ Church Bethel Park. There she focuses on developing the connection between ChristKids\, ChristYouth\, and ChristCollege. Heather works with youth and leaders in the local church\, WPAUMC Conference Youth\, and NEJ Jurisdictional Youth. Course Pricing $250 includes tuition\, materials\, 2-night stay with private room\, and all meals Retreat begins with check-in at Groves Lodge from 3-5pm on Friday. Retreat ends after lunch on Sunday. Participant price includes tuition\, materials\, all meals\, and private hotel-style room with linens. Nestled in the Allegheny National Forest\, surrounded by gardens\, trails\, and water features\, find the perfect setting to discover all God has to show you through Creation. Finding Hope in the Wilderness In our daily lives\, in our encounters with the natural world\, and throughout scripture\, we often see how God reveals hope in the most unlikely places. We invite you to come wander in the wilderness for a while and discover how vulnerability\, questions\, and creativity can lead us to lean into a hope that sustains. Rev. Beth Jones Beth Jones grew up in Central PA and has served for almost 25 years as a pastor in the (former)Wyoming and Susquehanna Conference of the United Methodist church.  In 2018\, she began serving as Director of Deep Green Journey\, a ministry that utilizes retreat and workshop settings as well as hiking and backpacking excursions to connect people to God through their experience in the wild.  She is a certified Nature and Forest Therapy Guide. She enjoys leading groups to discover extraordinary possibilities in life\, faith\, and relationships through a restorative connection with the natural world. She believes in the power and mystery of wilderness to help people recover greater health\, peace\, creativity\, and vision in their lives and to strengthen their relationship to God\, to others\, and with themselves. \nEvent Information: \nEvent begins with dinner on Thursday\, Aug. 17 and concludes with lunch on Saturday\, Aug. 19.\nCheck-in is in Groves Lodge from 3-6pm on Thursday.\nPricing includes two-night’s stay (private hotel-style room with linens)\, six meals\, and course tuition.\nDiscount available for those willing to select or be assigned a roommate.\nPlease contact Olmsted for commuter rates.
