Contemplative Life in Ministry The life of ministry is full—often busy. But does that mean we don’t have time or the tools to stay open\, available\, and responsive to God in all that we do? Can we live full\, active lives in ministry and stay open to and centered in God? This retreat will give pastors the space to explore what a contemplative life in ministry could look like\, valuable time for rest and reflection\, and tools that to help put this kind of life into practice.  Rev. Dr. L. Roger Owens   L. Roger Owens is professor of Christian spirituality and ministry at Pittsburgh Theological Seminary. An ordained minister\, he has served rural and urban United Methodist Congregations in North Carolina and is currently Co-Senior Pastor\, with his wife\, Rev. Ginger Thomas\, of Fox Chapel Presbyterian Church in Fox Chapel\, PA. An active speaker and retreat leader\, Roger is the author of several books\, including Abba\, Give Me a Word: The Path of Spiritual Direction and\, most recently\, Everyday Contemplative: The Way of Prayerful Living. SUMMARY:Silence in Community
DESCRIPTION:Experiencing silence in community allows our souls to settle and our senses to awaken\, so that we might tune in anew to God’s voice. This retreat begins with a brief time of community building and getting to know one another\, before entering into silence. Throughout the retreat\, we gather for morning and evening prayer daily\, including holy communion\, and to share meals. Each retreat participant will also meet daily one-on-one with a trained Spiritual Director\, who provides a listening ear and gentle guidance for the retreat time.  Retreat Leaders Companions on the Road\, a group of contemplative friends\, gathers to share silence in community three times each year: a two-night introduction to silence (this retreat!); a four-night “growing deeper” experience; and a seven-night experience of extended silence.  Lay persons and clergy from all traditions are welcome to participate. Retreat Leader Pam Honeychurch After graduating from the University of Southern Mississippi with a BS in Computer Science\, Pam was commissioned as an officer in the United States Air Force. She served at Malmstrom Air Force Base in Great Falls\, MT as the Executive Assistant in an Air Refueling Squadron\, and then at Altus Air Force Base\, in Altus\, OK as a Command Post Controller and Training Officer. While at MAFB\, she earned a Master’s in Information Systems from the University of Montana. After leaving military service\, Pam relocated to Pittsburgh where she worked for 9 years at a large law firm in information technology. After some years of arm twisting\, she reluctantly became the secretary at her church\, where she is now in her 11th year. She says it didn’t take long in this new role to learn it was her call to ministry. Six years ago\, she also became the Administrative Assistant for the Pittsburgh District of the WPAUMC. DESCRIPTION:FBI Presentation for Parents & Guardians \nThe FBI and law enforcement partners are seeing a huge increase in online targeting of our youth.  More specifically\, your youth are being targeted for exploitation and extortion based on their online activities.  What does that mean to you as a parent/guardian?  What can we do?  How can we keep our children safe?  What should we be talking to our children about? \nThis problem is “nationwide”.  These threats are being seen everywhere at an alarming rate.  We want you to be aware so that you can be a part of the solution and prevent these threats. \nPlease join us as we welcome Kane Alumni and SA Emily Stelle of the FBI to the KACC For a presentation providing awareness of sextortation and online exploitation.  It will include common applications that predators use to target children\, current cases being worked by the FBI That involve adults attempting to meet children via online means\, as well as undercover operations the FBI conducts to capture these predators.  Parental control applications will be discussed as well as resources for reporting this type of activity.  SA Steel will answer questions on the topic at the end of her presentation.
